Intersections of Closed Balls and Geometry of Banach Spaces
In section 1 we present definitions and basic results concerning the Mazur intersection property (MIP) and some of its related properties as the MIP* . Section 2 is devoted to renorming Banach spaces with MIP and MIP*. Section 3 deals with the connections between MIP, MIP* and differentiability of convex functions. In particular, we will focuss on Asplund and almost Asplund spaces. In Section 4...
متن کاملPrecomplete Clones on Infinite Sets Which Are Closed under Conjugation
We show that on an infinite set, there exist no other precomplete clones closed under conjugation except those which contain all permutations. Since on base sets of some infinite cardinalities, in particular on countably infinite ones, the precomplete clones containing the permutations have been determined, this yields a complete list of the precomplete conjugation-closed clones in those cases....
متن کاملFunctionally closed sets and functionally convex sets in real Banach spaces
Let $X$ be a real normed space, then $C(subseteq X)$ is functionally convex (briefly, $F$-convex), if $T(C)subseteq Bbb R $ is convex for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$; and $K(subseteq X)$ is functionally closed (briefly, $F$-closed), if $T(K)subseteq Bbb R $ is closed for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$. We improve the Krein-Milman theorem ...
متن کاملCovering numbers of $L_p$-balls of convex sets and functions
We prove bounds for the covering numbers of classes of convex functions and convex sets in Euclidean space. Previous results require the underlying convex functions or sets to be uniformly bounded. We relax this assumption and replace it with weaker integral constraints. The existing results can be recovered as special cases of our results.
متن کاملStrong proximinality of closed convex sets
We show that in a Banach space X every closed convex subset is strongly proximinal if and only if the dual norm is strongly sub differentiable and for each norm one functional f in the dual space X∗, JX(f) the set of norm one elements in X where f attains its norm is compact. As a consequence, it is observed that if the dual norm is strongly sub differentiable then every closed convex subset of...
